Lowa Renegade GTX Hiking Boot
Hiking long distances or over rough terrain
Favorite aspects of the product:
I’m absolutely in love with my Lowa Renegade GTX Hiking Boots. I’ve had them for just about a year now and they are my go to boots when I’m going for a hike that requires carrying a heavier pack or going over rough terrain. They look and perform like a bigger, burly boot, but man are they light and comfortable. The first time I picked a pair up I was shocked at just how lightweight they were for their size. I slipped them on and had instant comfort. Could a boot like this really be worn right out of the box on a hike in the White Mountains of New Hampshire? Yes, yes it could and it did. In fact my Renegade’s maiden voyage was up Mt. Pemigewasset in the morning and Mt. Hale in the afternoon. Two mountains, one day, with a brand new pair of boots.
Since that time I have been hooked. I’m so hooked that they were the boots that I took out to Wyoming for my trip to Yellowstone and Grand Teton. I own smaller, easier to pack boots, but not knowing the terrain meant I wanted my favorite. This also meant I had to wear them on the plane. I have big feet and they would have taken up way too much precious space in my bag. It was so worth it (just don’t fully lace them until after you get through security.)
So besides being comfortable and lightweight they also have good technical aspects. First off, they are made with a Gore-Tex lining. I have walked through many a stream with them on and stayed dry (just don’t go higher than your ankle or water my splash in over the top.) They explored out in the snow, have trudged through mud, and been caked in tan dirt. Another of my favorite features is the full length stabilizer in the midsole. It is especially nice to have that added support and protection while hiking and scrambling on rocky terrain, aka most of the terrain we have in the northeast. I can hop along from rock to rock and not worry about the feeling of a rock jabbing through my sole. Speaking of rock hopping, the Lowa Renegade also has great traction with a Vibram Evo outsole.
I like to pair my Lowa Renegade GTX Boots with Darn Tough Socks. It’s important if you have a good pair of boots that you also wear a good pair of socks. Stay away from cotton socks in you want the best performance out of your hiking boot.
